More celebrities opt for the friendlier version of divorce

Illinois movie buffs may know that Chris Pratt and his TV star wife, Anna Faris, ended their marriage. Recently, they finalized their divorce and opted to do so through the "conscious uncoupling" coined by Gwyneth Paltrow when she and ex-husband Chris Martin divorced. In fact, they made certain agreements that will keep them together as a family for a few more years despite the divorce.

Pratt and Faris are not divorcing due to anything as dramatic as an affair. Instead, they realized that their lives were going in two different directions. Pratt's work takes him all over the world, and Faris wanted the family to stay together in one place. In an odd way, she may get that wish now that the couple is divorced.

Pratt and Faris have a 6-year-old son whom they commit to raising together despite their divorce. They agreed to live within five miles of each other for the next few years until their son finishes the sixth grade. They feel this allows their son to have the most continuity and security during these years. The family remains as intact as possible under the circumstances for the sake of their son.

As the concept of a friendly divorce has gained more popularity, many Illinois couples are taking it to heart. Staying close to each other in order to co-parent their children often takes priority over any ill feelings they have for one another. The trick is to create an agreement by which everyone can live, which may require the support, advice and assistance of an attorney.
