Chris Brown prevails in child custody battle

Communication breakdowns between parents often lead to contentious situations. Sometimes, unresolved child custody issues lead to litigation in Illinois if one parent is unable to attain a fair agreement through negotiations due to the other parent's refusal to cooperate. Singer/actor/dancer, Chris Brown, has reportedly been engaged in an ongoing battle of this sort with the mother of his 1-year-old daughter.

Brown and the child's mother have addressed their custody problems in court on several occasions. After one hearing, the court ordered Brown to pay his former girlfriend's legal fees amounting to $20,000. However, in a surprising turn of events, another recent hearing ended with the court ordering the woman to pay all the money back to Brown.

The court also apparently denied several requests made by the child's mother. She is said to have asked the court to bar Brown's mother from seeing her grandchild, and also to have restrictions for supervision placed on Brown's own visits with his daughter. Neither of those requests were granted; in fact, the court has ruled that Brown may continue to have his daughter 12 days a month as per an existing agreement.

Child custody issues tend to evoke strong emotions on both sides. Any Illinois parent facing a struggle to obtain a fair and reasonable agreement may seek assistance by contacting an experienced attorney. Allowing an attorney to speak and act on one's behalf in court may help avoid angry outbursts between parents who disagree. It could also lead to a result that is truly in the best interests of the child.
